Observe the static precautions below. Failure to follow these steps may result in damage to the DIMM or circuit board or both.

Static electricity precautions:

• Unplug the printer from its power outlet.
• Touch the printer's bare metal frame often to discharge static electricity from your body.
• Handle the circuit board(s) by their edges only.
• Do not lay the board(s) on a metal surface.
• Avoid wearing nylon or polyester clothing; they generate static electricity.

1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
   

2. Loosen the 2 thumb screws on the back of the printers main board.
   

3. Slide out the main board.
   

4. Remove the tape from the insulating hard disk material and and install it on the bottom of the hard disk.
   

5. Place the board on a firm flat surface.
   

6. Carefully install the hard disk on the main board and insert it into the connector so all the pins are in place.
   

7. Check that the hard disk is installed properly.
   

8. Secure the hard disk to the main board with the 4 mounting screws.

   If you are unable to install all four screws the hard disk is not mounted properly. Do not power the printer up until the hard disk is mounted correctly. Failure to mount the hard disk properly may result in damage to other electronic assemblies in the printer.

9. Insert the board back into the printer.
   
10. Tighten down the the thumb screws.
    

11. Plug the printer back in and turn on the printer.
    

12. To verify that the option is installed correctly and the printer recognizes it, print a Configuration Page and look for Hard Disk to verify the new hard disk is available to the printer. If the option is not correct perform the installation procedure again.
